Subterranean termites in Arizona swarm during monsoon season, which is from July to September. However, depending on the species, elevation, and moisture conditions over 20% when discussing subterranean termite swarms: Winged reproductive swarms will occur from January to March when desert land is below 4,000 feet. Spring is the swarming season for most subterranean termites. Most species of subterranean termites swarm during the spring and summer months, typically on a warm day with calm winds after a rainfall. subterranean termites prefer to infest structural wood with at least a 20 percent moisture. When it's too dry they quickly return to soil. They use their main form of travel by mud tubes they build out of their fecal matter. Termites in general need to eat as do all of natures creatures. Termites live and feed off of cellulose found in wood and plant materials. Termites are able to live off cellulose thanks to the organisms found in their stomachs. Bacteria and protozoa form a mutually beneficial relationship with the pests by producing a special enzyme that naturally breaks down cellulose. They digest the cellulose, and termites receive their nutrition in the form of sugar. Yes there is sugar in wood. What you may not realize is that sugar is the fundamental building block of all trees and plants Somewhere on the evolutionary scale the termites began producing a liquid that contained protozoa that they would excrete. The termite offspring in turn consume the feces and thereby gain the protozoa in their digestive systems. Soldier termites can't break down or eat wood so they depend on workers to feed them through a process called trophallaxis. Subterranean Termite colonies can take 3 to 5 years to fully mature. It can take anywhere from 3 to 8 years for termite damage to show up depending on the size of the colony. That being said, even if you don't see mud tubes going up foundation of your home: it doesn't mean that Termites arent there. In fact they can even be coming into your homes walls interior through plumbing and bath traps. Its always best to seek a Termite professional to thoroughly inspect your home a minimum of every 3 years.
